School Improvement Plan 2018-2019

                                                         SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
MCA 2018-2019
Mooresville Christian Academy has been complementing Christian families and churches, by providing an excellent Christ-centered education, and preparing young people to grow in faith, scholarship, leadership, and stewardship. It is our belief that all students should have access to excellent Christ-centered education with an emphasis on a culture of learning and improvement. After seeing our ISTEP scores dip we wanted to put a plan together that could help address all learning and help improve our ISTEP scores and our school grade. We will
implement several grade specific strategies and best practices to enhance an already rigorous curriculum.

As the results of the 17-18 ISTEP scores, our goal is to continue to prepare our students academically, socially and spiritually for what God has in store for them. As we look at the new test, ILEARN, we continue to develop strategies to help our students better understand the material. Parents should have received their ISTEP scores in June, so we have implemented, First in Math, tutoring, bell work, and technology class to help our
students achieve better on the test. We are also evaluating curriculum for the 19-20 school year to better prepare our students.

The MCA’s school grade has improved and the academic growth from 16-17 to 17-18 was good to see, but there is a lot of work to be done to get more students passing the ILEARN test. The teachers and I continue to review the blueprint from the state for standards that need met, and we also look at what needs our students have in and out of the classroom. We want our students to be healthy learners both mentally and physically.

Here are areas of change that the Curriculum Committee feels the Plan needs to focus for measurability.
*NWEA is given three times a year. All students take this assessment at the beginning and end of the school year, and a group of students who are identified as ‘bubble and NP students’ take the test in the winter so we as a school can measure whether or not the school is moving the students in the right direction academically.
*MCA has also implemented ‘First in Math” to help students with their math facts. This is online activities where students play math games and help them understand math facts at an early age. This will help them do better in their math classes.
*Technology class has been organized for grades 3 – 8 to help students get more familiar with the type of technology used on the ILEARN test.
*MCA will also provide summer packets to students to continue to review lessons from the year to prepare them for the next grade level.
