Background:
I grew up just outside Columbus, IN. We didn't live on a farm, but my grandparents who lived just up the road, raised cows and chickens. I got to help feed the cows and chickens. I even got to gather eggs. My grandma kept a sharp eye out for the rooster though. One of my favorite memories is picking (and eating) strawberries in the warm sunshine with my grandma. I also liked sharing ice cream with my grandpa.
I am an only child and living in the country didn't provide many kids to play with, so I played with my three boy cousins. They weren't excited about playing with dolls, so I ended up playing army, King of the Hill and running through the woods and cow pasture. We did keep our eye out for the bull so he wouldn't chase us.
I have never been a good athlete, but I did try a few sports. I tried, but didn't like-volleyball and track. My parents let me take ice skating lessons and that turned into my favorite sport. I began to play ice hockey at my local rink. I didn't play competitively, but just for fun with mostly guys. I played with two Indiana University ice hockey team members and even with a guy who was retired from the NHL (National Hockey League) and others of various ages and skill levels. I learned a lot from them all. I was even on the Channel 8 news Dick Wolfsie show playing hockey with other women who were taking a hockey camp in Indianapolis. There aren't many women hockey players so we were a novelty. Needless to say, I enjoyed watching the women's Olympic ice hockey team take the gold and I have the Wheaties box that they are featured on.
I graduated from Columbus East High School. I then attended IUPUC in Columbus and finished my Bachelors in Elementary Education at IUPUI in Indianapolis. I have worked at a small family owned fruit and vegetable stand, a tire company, a bookstore and a Marsh grocery store where I learned to decorate cakes. I also spent many years working at Jo Ann Fabrics before getting a job here at MCA.
Testimony:
My parents took me to church and Sunday school when I was little so I grew up knowing about Jesus. I accepted Jesus when I was nine and was baptised the following summer. I am a member of Camby Community Church. I try to be a faithful servant in whatever I do and try to always please God with my attitude and actions. God's still workin' on me though! I am very blessed that He has called me to teach at MCA! I know I am working for God, but it sure seems like a lot of fun.
